Recent Reads: When Calls the Heart and Anne of Green Gables

Hi folks! One thing that all my friends know about me is that I love books! I have been a huge bookworm my whole life. I have so many fond memories of reading, and reading, and reading for hours on end… anything from The Babysitter’s Club to Alex Rider to The Hunger Games to Sherlock Holmes… the list goes on!

A while ago I started reading ‘When Calls the Heart’ by Janette Oke, the first book in the Canadian West series. SO GOOD, people! As I read, I became so invested in Elizabeth Thatcher, the privileged city girl who sets out to use her schoolteacher skills where they are needed most, in the west. As she faced many incredible challenges, I was there, clinging on every word. As she met new people and she learned and she went through terrible heartbreak… I couldn’t put the books down. When I finished the first one, I could hardly wait to go back to the library and get the next five books, and I did! These books are so riveting. However… I was sorely disappointed with the last two books. Why? Because they skip *years* and go from Elizabeth’s life right to the next generation. I will admit that I didn’t get more than a few chapters into book 5, I was just so let down.

And I finally read Anne of Green Gables! I watched the movie with my friends last year, and I loved it. I have the book and a few months ago I decided to start reading it… well I have to admit, I have a bad habit of sometimes reading a few chapters of a book and then forgetting about it. I did that. But on Saturday, my husband Jared and I were at the rugby fields all day, as he’s decided to get back into refereeing. I brought Anne of Green Gables and with six hours, I was able to read the whole book. It was amazing! This is one of those books that I know I will read over and over again.

What are some of your favorite books? We have an amazing library in Whangarei but I’m not sure where to start!

Also, my memory card reader stopped working so I can’t put any photos onto my computer right now. I’ll be getting a new one soon, but until I do I won’t have any new photos, sorry!
