My Favorite Smoothie Recipes

Over two weeks into our Month of No Sugar. Guys it’s really not all that great. We’ll see, there’s still a few weeks left. But I’m really looking forward to April 1st. One thing I’m making as soon as I can eat sugar again is peanut butter cookies because my friends Briahna and Hannah have the BEST recipe ever and they gave it to me. I love peanut butter cookies.

Okay that’s not helping. Oh and the other night I had a dream that I accidentally ate a bunch of sugar because my sister Jubilee offered it to me and I wasn’t thinking and forgot that I’m not eating sugar. *sigh* Agh, getting sidetracked again… back to the topic…

Smoothies. I love smoothies! Of any kind. Cool, creamy, tasty. Today I’m going to share with you a couple of my favorite recipes! I have tried making smoothies without recipes. Even using the ‘how to make a smoothie’ guides that give you options so you can create your own recipe. It. Does. Not. Work. For. Me. I can’t do it. They always turn out nasty. So I need a recipe, and then sometimes I’ll add a small handful of spinach or some chia seeds, but besides that I like to stick to the instructions. Unfortunately I haven’t been taking photos of my smoothies, so I’ll just share a few screenshots from Pinterest!

  1. Mixed Berry Smoothie: Gal On A Mission
So Sweet and yummy! This is berry heaven.

  2. Orange Creamsicle Smoothie: A Saucy Kitchen
So delicious and orangey! Feel free to halve the recipe if you only want to make one serving. It took me a while to find a recipe for an orange smoothie that called for oranges, and not orange juice, but this is it and it’s so good!

  3. Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie
I know I found this on Pinterest somewhere, but now I can’t find the same pin… there are about three thousand similar recipes out there though. I had one this morning that was a ‘copycat Wendy’s frosty’ and it wasn’t very good. Too much banana without enough chocolate. This one though… so sweet, chocolatey… it’s perfect!
    Ingredients:
    1 banana (fresh or frozen)
    2 Tablespoons Cocoa Powder
1 Spoonful peanut butter (you can leave out if you want just plain chocolate!)
1 Small handful spinach (or whatever greens you have on hand)
    1 Cup milk
    12-15 Ice cubes
    1 Teaspoon chia seeds (optional)
Blend together, and there you go! I sometimes add chia seeds but it doesn’t change the flavor or consistency- just an extra kick of nutrition if you want it!
  4. Salad Smoothie
Jared wasn’t too impressed with this one. Me? I thought it was great! Yes it tasted pretty green. But with the banana and pear it was sweet enough to balance it out. I grew up drinking ‘army juice’ (spinach and carrot juice) so I actually love the ‘healthy’ taste of it! I think I based this off a recipe I found online but I can’t find it because I forgot to save it, and I altered it anyways. So it’s not completely original, but I did make a few changes. I didn’t write it on paper but thankfully I shared it with my mom and sister in our ‘Sugar Free Month’ group chat on FB so I do have it!
    Ingredients:
    1 Big handful lettuce
    1 Pear
    1 Frozen banana
    1 Tsp chia seeds
    1 Tsp sesame seeds
    1 Cup water
    Blend and enjoy!

Do you enjoy smoothies? What is your favorite flavor? The chocolate one is my go-to! I’m always looking for new recipes, too. The other day Jared and I tried on in our Nutribullet book called a ‘Shamrock Shake’. It had spinach, milk, water, banana, peppermint extract, and vanilla. It was pretty good but a little watery without much substance, in my opinion.

Do you have a blender? Jared and I have the Nutribullet. He insisted, and I was happy to oblige. I don’t remember where we got it from because when we moved into this house we went to so many home goods stores. I know we got our toaster, iron, and microwave from Smiths City. We got our vacuum cleaner and maybe our jug from 100% Barell’s. We got knives from Briscoes. WAIT I just remembered, we did get the blender from Briscoes as well. And we got our life saver– sorry I mean rice cooker from Briscoes too. (I love my rice cooker. I can’t cook rice on the stove for the life of me.)

We have this set, which I love.

I’ll admit we don’t use the smallest cup very often, but we use the other two pretty much every day! We have smoothies for breakfast all the time and Jared will make his in the medium cup, then pop on the lid you can drink out of and take it to work. Then I’ll wash the blade and make my smoothie in the pitcher.

Do you have a blender? I think my parents have a Blendtec and it’s amazing as well!
