Same Blog, New Website!

Hi friends! It’s been almost a month since I posted here, which I have to apologize for. We are still doing great and little Abel is now twelve weeks old! He’s growing so fast and I am so obsessed with him. I love being his mom!

The last several weeks I’ve been working on a new project which I’m so excited about! For months now I’ve been thinking about upgrading this blog by changing it to a new web address and I finally have!

The Canadian American Kiwi is still going strong but now you can find us at www.tillycutforth.com

I won’t be posting here anymore, so make sure you bookmark my new website so you don’t miss a post!

Capsule Wardrobe: Maternity

If you’re not familiar with the term ‘capsule wardrobe’, it means that instead of having dozens and dozens of items of clothing, you have a select few that all go together. I never planned to have a capsule wardrobe – I love clothes. But as my bump has grown, my clothes have shrunk, and I hate buying something I won’t wear for long, so my wardrobe is significantly smaller than it was six months ago. I still have all my clothes (although I need to sort through and get rid of some) but most of them don’t fit at the moment.

I currently have a pair of shorts, a skirt, and five tops that fit. I have two dresses and one maxi skirt that fit. And one pair of shoes that I wear 90% of the time.

I have a few other items I can sometimes wear but they’re either uncomfortable or not suitable to wear in public.

capsule wardrobe_ maternity.jpg

These are the items that I currently wear on a regular basis. I’ve included the sizes, and whether that’s my usual (pre-pregnancy) size or not.

Maternity Capsule Wardrobe

1x Maternity jean shorts (The Warehouse) – usual size (10)

1x Regular bodycon skirt (Postie) – several sizes up (16)

3x Regular stretchy t-shirts (The Warehouse) – size up (M)

1x Regular stretchy t-shirt (Postie) – size up (M)

1x Maternity 3/4 sleeve t-shirt (The Warehouse) – usual size (S)

1x Maternity flowy long sleeve top (given to me) – usual size (8)

The jeans in the graphic above fit great for the first 6 months or so but now they don’t fit comfortably.

I have a few dresses and skirts that I can wear for church, but this is what I stick to on a daily basis. I also have several cardigans (as pictured) that I wear often!

As you can see a couple of the tops are starting to get small now so I may need to go up another size, or get another one or two maternity tops.

One more item, and this one has been a lifesaver, is my shoes! You can see a few different pairs of shoes in the photos above; the pink Nike ones I’ve had for two and a half years. They were so comfortable but since I wore them on a daily basis they were getting holes in them. A couple months ago Jared sent me to get new shoes, and it was perfect timing since Rebel Sport had a sale that weekend! I got these amazing Puma shoes. They are absolutely perfect for pregnancy, and here’s why.

52717514_503313093531213_4592339071954583552_n.jpgWhy you need comfortable shoes in pregnancy

You’re always supposed to eat healthy and exercise, so of course while you’re pregnant you should too. It goes without saying that having comfortable shoes that fit well helps a lot!

Your feet might grow. I’m usually a size 8, could possibly squeeze into a 7 1/2 but uncomfortably. Now I’m an 8 1/2, could possibly squeeze into an 8 but uncomfortably. I hope that my feet go back to my normal size once Kiwi is born because all of my shoes (except this new pair) are too tight, and I would hate to have to get rid of them all! With the extra weight from your growing baby, you really want to take care of your feet so make sure you have at least one pair of shoes that is really comfortable.

Swelling. I was hoping to avoid this but unfortunately I now have some experience with it! Normally my feet get swollen if I’m walking or standing for most of the day, so if I’m busy in the kitchen or I go for a walk. The shoes that I have are perfect for this because the material covering the top and side of your foot is very stretchy and flexible so it doesn’t constrain my feet and make them worse when they’re swollen.

I always get nervous buying something expensive like shoes, but I love these so much! They’re so comfortable (it took a week or two to break them in, during which I was afraid I didn’t like them, but now they fit perfectly!). They’re sparkly and teal. If you need new shoes, these are truly the bomb.

What do you think of capsule wardrobes? I’ve always been too nervous to try it but now that I’m practically doing it out of necessity, I actually enjoy it! It’s definitely easier to get dressed… I probably have less laundry since I wear the same thing all the time. As much as I hate to admit it, I’m really bad at getting rid of stuff. It feels like a waste. However, now that I’ve experienced having a capsule wardrobe, I have to admit it is amazing. If I do end up switching to a capsule wardrobe with my regular clothes, I’ll have to do another blog post and let you know!

Younique Lip Stain-2266

Watch my video to see my review of this lip stain (I’m wearing the color sucker-punched here) and my comparison of this and the LipSense lip stains.

Have you tried Younique Stiff Upper Lip, or LipSense? I really like them both! To choose a favorite I’d have to say Younique because I was so impressed with how smoothly it goes on and how easy it is to reapply! LipSense can be quite drying and is harder to reapply because it starts to flake a bit and then once you reapply it, it can look a little patchy. It also costs more initially because you should get the gloss and the lip stick remover as well, but there are more colors than Younique.

If you’re in NZ or Australia, don’t forget to leave a comment (with an email address you use!) to enter the giveaway by Sunday May 13 at 11:59pm! Winner will be announced Monday!

Don’t forget I’ll giving away one of Younique’s lip stains as well, so be sure to check in on Wednesday so you can enter the giveaway! You can read more about the lip stain on Wednesday, but I’ll give you a spoiler: the lip stain is amazing and I really love it!

OH and important news! To me anyways… I finally got a replacement of my amazing bb cream.

Yeah you probably expected my important news would be more important than that, but I have been using a bb cream that’s not the right color and that looks awful on my skin for weeks, so I am so happy!

31957625_1336838556415714_4818751588677976064_n.jpg

Just above; the NYX bb cream. It’s perfect for me, honestly! It’s moisturizing, so it doesn’t look cakey when it’s on, like the Rimmel bb cream 9-in-one that is also supposed to moisturize but doesn’t… I’m sure it’s great for some people, but it’s awful for my skin. This NYX stuff is the bomb!

When I was trying to find that picture in my camera roll, I remembered these photos I’d taken as well, when I got my BYS Cosmetics eyeshadow palette and was playing around with it!

I am definitely not an expert, but I watch a lot of makeup videos on Instagram and YouTube, so, you know, getting there. 😉 This palette by BYS is called Festival, and it’s filled with bright colors! (Also, all those people who are great at makeup have much nicer cameras for photographing their looks than just an iPhone 6. I guess I have a nice camera too but I’m still figuring out how to take photos of myself with it.) I haven’t tried anything else by BYS (random thought; I have no idea what BYS stands for) but this eyeshadow palette is gorgeous, and everything else in their shop is now on my wishlist, because it’s good quality and affordable. AND PS the lip stain I’m wearing in this photo is by Younique!

31958987_1336838496415720_3664628519725432832_n

Here’s another look I did the next day, and did you notice I’m finally a bit more comfortable with winged eyeliner? I know I’m still not great at it; but I’m slowly getting it figured out! And this lip stain is also by Younique, so you’ll see this photo again on Wednesday. 😉

Next is not my best, but I figured, why not share it since I spent ages doing it and took it off right after taking these photos which turned out awful since it was dark outside…

For this I used my ELF eyeshadow palette, which I hardly use because I find that *I whisper* it’s terrible to blend. It was still fun making this look though, so I’ll keep it around cause I hate throwing things away that I might someday use… ha ha. (No I’m not a hoarder; I’ve watched the tv show and that is enough to keep my hoarding tendencies at a sane level)

I often scroll through the Instagram explore feed watching makeup tutorials, so I can’t really name any specific account that I follow there. However, my favorite YouTubers are Denitslava and Kristin Johns. Kristin’s channel is vlogs as well, so not just makeup, but her makeup is great and she is super sweet!

Here is Kristin’s channel, and here is Denitslava’s.

Are you into makeup? I have to say, I only started learning makeup about three years ago, and a lot of learning (for me anyways) is trial and error… sometimes I wish I started wearing makeup at like 13 so I got the embarrassing I-don’t-have-a-clue-what-I’m-doing stage out of the way while everything else embarrassed me too. Well, it is what it is, but here’s my tip for learning makeup: practice, and be patient. And watch lots of tutorials online 😉

Postie

Hi guys! Stay tuned because next week’s video is going to be about Younique’s lip stain, and I’ll be comparing it to the LipSense lip stains as well! PLUS guys I get to give you one of Younique’s lip stains, so check in on Wednesday and be sure to enter the giveaway!

This week has been, well, no walk in the park. I mean hey, life is incredibly interesting, so that’s good, at least. Today Jared’s grandma invited me to her house for morning tea, as she and granddad are celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary! It was great to get see grandma and granddad, as well as meet granddad’s siblings. It was such a nice morning and I love this family that I married into!

Yesterday was quite the day, let me tell you about it. I had an appointment at 11:45 to get my hair cut. I spent the morning tidying up and cleaning the house, since someone was coming around later. That was all good, I left the house beautiful and spotless. Well, I was almost at the hair place when Jared called me asking about the house key, because he needed to get inside. So I had to turn around, go home and give him the key, and then continue on my way to my appointment. I called to let them know I was running late, but by the time I showed up it was so late that there wasn’t time to do it. I wasn’t entirely surprised, and of course it was totally my fault so I wasn’t upset.

We rescheduled for next week, and I texted Jared and told him I was on my way home. He called me and told me to go shopping and buy something, so I got a gorgeous dress from Postie! It was so sweet of him, and the dress I got is just perfect! Really guys, my husband is so sweet. Now, I’m not someone who you’d probably like to go shopping with. You’ll understand why in a minute. I went to Postie, and looked around, and they have lots of great things! There were some incredibly soft shirts and sweaters. I wandered around, looked at everything, tried on a few things, but didn’t find anything that I LOVED. So I went to the Warehouse and looked around there, but there wasn’t really anything I liked there… so I went back to Postie, tried on a few more things, and finally tried on a couple dresses. The first one I tried on I loved immediately! It was so soft, comfortable, and beautiful! The other two were great too but didn’t fit me as well, and I went with the first one. I love it so much! I’ll take a photo of myself actually wearing it later, but here’s a screenshot of it on the website.

31945117_1334204416679128_3829478598725599232_n.jpg

I haven’t shopped a lot at Postie, because I don’t really go shopping a lot now, but last year I got this simple gray cardigan there. I had been wanting a gray cardigan for ages and finally decided to find one, and I was surprised how picky I am and how many different cardigans there are. Postie is where I found the right one, and it’s a staple for me! Seriously, it goes with anything (well except other grays that are too warm). When I first came to NZ it took a while to figure out what brands/places are nice and which ones are cheap, I’m still figuring it out to be honest. But I’ve found Postie is great!

The prices are really good too, I’m trying to think what US store to compare it to and, you might totally disagree with this, but it makes me think of Old Navy, a bit. Similar prices, including the sale racks, and they keep up with current styles, without going for every single trend and fab. Anyways I really like Postie! I also tried on a few sweatshirts that were unbelievably soft. I’m serious. If you want a soft, warm, cozy sweater- Postie is the place to go. The warehouse had some really soft ones too, but theirs weren’t really my style.

Where are your favorite places to shop?

Makeup Organization

I keep my makeup on top of our dresser in our room. A week ago, it was a huge mess. I always had to dig around to find what I needed. Well I finally decided to go through and reorganize it so that it looks better and is easier to find what I need.

IMG_1951

This is what it looks like now. Previously, I had boxes, makeup bags, etc… it looked awful and like I said, it was hard to find things. So I got rid of all the bags I had. Well hold on, I didn’t get rid of them, because I love them and they’re really useful. But I stopped using them to organize my makeup.

IMG_1953

This box was previously just a white box, but I wanted it to actually look somewhat cute, so I used some washi tape to add some color!

IMG_1954

And the middle cup here? I gotta be honest with you… it’s just a tin can with washi tape around it. But it looks great and serves the purpose!

IMG_1956

I organized my makeup by what each item was. I have a box with nail polish, a box with foundation/concealer/mascara, I have my lip sticks and my lip glosses, my eyeliners, brushes, etc.

IMG_1963

IMG_1966

Okay I just want to brag on that cream colored tin right there! It’s an eyeshadow palette by W7 called Colour Me Nude. I love it! It’s basically a perfect dupe for the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette, and it goes on really nicely and blends great. The colors are awesome too… after I organized all my makeup I went through and swatched basically everything, just for fun. I realized that all my eyeshadows are basically the same color scheme- nudes/pinks/browns. The Elf palette I have has more colors, but I don’t use it much because it doesn’t blend well at all. Anyways, I definitely have a ‘comfort zone’ for what colors I like to use! I want to branch out and try more colors, but at the same time, whenever I next buy eyeshadow… I am in love with Maybelline’s new Lemonade Craze palette! And that’s in my comfort zone. But it does have a bright pink and a yellow, so it still counts as expanding my horizons, right?!

IMG_1967

It was fun to go through and organize, and I even got rid of like two things that I never use because they’re awful. It’s so nice to have my makeup organized, and it’s way easier to find stuff.

What’s your favorite way to keep your makeup organized? I guess it really depends on how much you have. This was works great for me though, I love how easy it is to find everything.

My First YouTube Video

Yesterday I got a couple of things from Farmers, mostly Wet n Wild makeup because it’s really affordable and I wanted to try it out! I shot and edited this video on my iPhone, and I’m still a beginner, but I really enjoyed it!

My FAVORITE product is the Wet n Wild 1 Step Wonder Gel nail color- I am definitely going to buy it in the future. It dries really fast, goes on smoothly, and the color is bright.

I also love the soap dispenser I got on clearance for $1… it was originally $20! I love getting sales like that.

The glitter nail polish isn’t my favorite because the glitter isn’t as concentrated- you don’t get much glitter on your nail. I have another glitter nail polish (same brand and line but different color) that is very glittery. I guess it depends if you like more or less glitter!

Wet n Wild eyeshadow: I like it so far! I’ve only used it once, so I can’t say for sure how good it is, but my first impression was good. The case was really hard to open though.

Wet n Wild lipstick: I loved the texture of this. It was smooth and moisturizing, but the color was still bright and it didn’t move too much.

Wet n Wild pencil sharpener: This worked very well! For only $2.99, it was such a steal.

Have you tried many Wet n Wild products? I have to say that I’m a big fan of their nail polish. It’s good quality for the price, and my two favorite nail polishes ever have been Wet n Wild (the 1 Step Wonder mentioned above, and a Wild Shine that I’ve had for ages). I’m looking forward to getting more Wet n Wild makeup in the future! I’m impressed with the quality considering that their prices are so affordable.

28511913_1276283855804518_1507237103_n

Here I’m wearing the Wet n Wild eyeshadow that I got, as well as the lipstick in Hot Red. And I forgot to mention that my mascara is Wet n Wild too!

Head over to YouTube and give my video a thumb’s up if you enjoyed it and would like to see more like it in the future. 🙂

Have a lovely week!
